On March 17, multiple drones and rockets targeted the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone, marking the most intense assault since the Iran-Israel conflict began on February 28. Iraqi air defenses intercepted several projectiles, but at least one drone struck inside the embassy compound, causing a fire and material damage without reported casualties. Concurrent attacks also hit a hotel in Baghdad and the Majnoon oil field in southern Iraq. Iranian-backed militias are suspected, though no direct Iranian involvement has been officially confirmed. Security forces have increased deployments in response.
