
The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to take over subways near major government hospitals, including AIIMS and Safdarjung, to provide beds and winterized tents for patients and their relatives. This follows concerns over inadequate night shelters amid severe cold, with the court emphasizing shelter as a fundamental right. The Delhi government has increased night shelter capacity and intensified rescue operations under its Winter Action Plan 2025-26 to protect homeless individuals from cold waves.
