Bengaluru's Bannerghatta National Park faces a potential threat to its eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) following a 2018 government notification that significantly reduced its protected area. Environmental activists allege this reduction, from 268.9 sq km to 168.8 sq km, exposes the park to mining and real estate interests. A Supreme Court-appointed panel will visit the park on January 2 to assess the ecological impact, amid comparisons to the Aravalli hills controversy.
