Supreme Court Lifts Ban on Anurag Thakur’s Participation in BCCI Affairs

The Supreme Court of India on February 5, 2026, modified its 2017 order that barred Anurag Thakur, former BCCI president and BJP MP, from participating in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) affairs. The court applied the doctrine of proportionality, noting Thakur's unconditional apology and nine-year disassociation from the board. The original ban followed Thakur's removal for not implementing Lodha Committee reforms and filing a false affidavit. The modification allows him to engage with the BCCI as per its rules and regulations, clarifying the ban was not intended as a lifelong disqualification.
