Central Sector Infrastructure Projects Report Rs 5.52 Lakh Crore Cost Overrun in January

As of January 2026, 1,702 central sector infrastructure projects valued above Rs 150 crore each have a cumulative cost overrun of Rs 5.52 lakh crore, with revised costs totaling Rs 39.25 lakh crore compared to the original Rs 33.72 lakh crore, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. These projects span 17 ministries, with 38% over 80% progress. The transport logistics sector leads with 1,180 projects worth Rs 20.65 lakh crore. Three projects were commissioned and 203 added to monitoring in January.
