On March 1, 2025, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation planted 251,446 saplings in one hour using the Miyawaki method, setting a new Guinness World Record and surpassing China's 2018 record of 153,981 saplings. The plantation took place in the Domari area near the Ganga riverfront, involving over 20,000 participants. This effort is part of the 'Namo Van' urban forest project spanning 350 bighas, which includes timber, fruit-bearing, and medicinal trees, along with planned public facilities. The project aims to enhance biodiversity, strengthen the riverbank, improve ecological balance, and generate future revenue for the municipality.
