
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Guwahati has sentenced Md. Kamruj Zaman to life imprisonment for conspiring to establish a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen module in Assam between 2017-18. Zaman received three concurrent sentences, including life imprisonment under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, along with five-year terms and fines. He was found guilty of recruiting individuals to further the Pakistan-based terror outfit's activities in the Northeast. Three other accused pleaded guilty and were convicted, while a fifth died during the trial.
