The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) reported 128 journalists were killed worldwide in 2025, a significant increase from the previous year, with over half occurring in the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian territories. The IFJ also noted 533 journalists are currently imprisoned globally, with China holding the highest number. The organization condemned impunity for attacks on media professionals and highlighted accidental deaths as part of the toll.
