Farooq Abdullah Welcomes Kashmiri Pandits’ Return Amid Rehabilitation Demands on Exodus Day

On January 19, observed as 'Exodus Day' by Kashmiri Pandits, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah stated that displaced Pandits are welcome to return to the Kashmir Valley, emphasizing their rightful place there. He noted many Pandit families never left and continue to live peacefully in the region. Abdullah expressed doubt about a permanent return, citing that many have established lives elsewhere with children in education and employment. He urged the Union government to address rehabilitation and housing demands, as previous state initiatives stalled after his tenure. Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandit groups protested, seeking a separate homeland and recognition of their genocide in Parliament.
