Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's Tenure Extended by One Year Until July 2027
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, allowing him to serve until July 14, 2027, under Fundamental Rule 56(d). Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, assumed charge in July 2024 and has held key diplomatic roles, including Deputy National Security Adviser and Ambassador to China, Spain, and Myanmar. Known for his expertise on China, he has served as private secretary to three prime ministers and played a significant role in managing India-China relations post-2020 border tensions. The extension aims to ensure continuity amid major diplomatic engagements, including the upcoming BRICS summit in New Delhi.
