Around 350 industrial units in Kanpur, including 288 tanneries, have suspended operations from December 31 to February 15 to preserve the water quality and sanctity of the Ganga River during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj. Officials stated this closure is crucial for ensuring the river's purity as water takes three days to reach Prayagraj. Inspection teams are monitoring compliance, with only dry work permitted, while wet processes discharging effluents are prohibited.
