The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formed a high-level inter-departmental committee to address the rising issue of digital arrest scams, where fraudsters impersonate officials to extort money. Following Supreme Court directions, the committee includes senior officials from multiple ministries and agencies such as MeitY, RBI, CBI, and Delhi Police. It aims to examine enforcement challenges, legal gaps, victim compensation, and suggest corrective measures. The committee meets regularly and considers amicus curiae recommendations to strengthen responses to this cybercrime.
