Model Code of Conduct Enforced Ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

Following the announcement of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect across the state. Officials removed political banners and posters, and deployed 128 vehicles with flying squads, static surveillance, and video teams in Chennai and other districts to monitor compliance. In Madurai, Rs 2 lakh in unaccounted cash was seized during vehicle inspections. Authorities have suspended weekly grievance meetings and urged strict adherence to MCC rules to ensure a fair election.
