Model Code of Conduct Enforced in Tamil Nadu Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections

Following the announcement of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect across the state. Officials removed political banners and posters in Chennai and other areas, while monitoring teams, including flying squads and surveillance units, were deployed with GPS-fitted vehicles to enforce election regulations. In Madurai, election officials seized Rs 2 lakh in unaccounted cash during vehicle inspections. Authorities in Vellore and Chennai have also intensified vigilance to ensure a free and fair election process.
