Central and state security forces, including the Narcotics Control Bureau and Forest Department, destroyed over 306 acres of illegal poppy fields in Manipur's Kangpokpi district between January 12 and 17. The operation seized cultivation equipment and destroyed 43 temporary huts. Earlier joint efforts in November and December eliminated more than 1,000 acres across six hill districts, potentially preventing nearly 9,000 kg of opium production valued at several hundred crores. Operations faced challenging terrain and weather conditions.
