The Supreme Court of India has expressed serious concern over steep and unpredictable airfares and additional charges imposed by private airlines during festive seasons and holidays. Hearing a public interest litigation filed by social activist S. Laxminarayanan, the court directed the Central Government to examine the issue at the highest level and file a response within four weeks. The petition highlights dynamic pricing practices, reduced free baggage allowances, and argues that air travel has become an essential service. The government is actively considering regulatory measures, with further hearings scheduled for March 23.
