
The Supreme Court ruled that families occupying encroached railway land in Haldwani have no legal right to remain there, as the land belongs to the Railways. It directed Uttarakhand authorities and the State Legal Services Authority to assist eligible families in applying for rehabilitation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) by March 31. The court emphasized the need to balance railway infrastructure development with providing alternative housing support to affected residents, many of whom have lived there for decades.
