The Mizoram Assembly plans to move a resolution to seek the inclusion of the Mizo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which currently lists 22 languages. This initiative follows consultations between Chief Minister Lalduhoma and the Eighth Schedule Study Group of the Mizo Language Development Board, reflecting broad support from various Mizo communities. The group noted that Mizo, the state's official language since 1974 and a common medium among Zo ethnic groups, had been proposed for inclusion previously but not actively pursued. A task group is proposed to resubmit the proposal comprehensively.
