Eight US lawmakers have urged the Indian government to grant bail and a fair trial to activist Umar Khalid, who has been jailed since September 2020 in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots. Khalid, a former JNU student leader active in anti-CAA protests, is accused by Delhi Police of conspiracy and inciting communal violence through speeches. He faces charges under UAPA and other acts, including rioting and sedition. His parents had previously met with political leaders in the US to raise concerns about his prolonged imprisonment.
