The Assam government has passed an amendment to the Land Holding Bill, enabling land pattas for tea garden workers living in labour lines. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that non-cooperation from tea estate owners in this process could lead to the withdrawal of Rs 150 crore in annual incentives. This law aims to provide dignity and secure land rights to generations of tea garden families, with restrictions on selling the land for 20 years.
