Supreme Court Directs Action on CAQM's Long-Term Delhi-NCR Air Pollution Measures

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has identified vehicular pollution as the largest contributor to air pollution in Delhi-NCR, followed by biomass burning, dust, and industrial emissions. The Supreme Court has directed the Centre, Delhi government, and NCR states to submit action plans within four weeks to implement 15 long-term measures recommended by CAQM. These include phasing out polluting vehicles, strengthening pollution control regimes, expanding public transport, revising electric vehicle policies, and imposing higher environmental charges. The court emphasized timely compliance and will not entertain objections to these measures.
