China has begun construction on the 167-billion Motuo Hydropower Station, the world's largest dam, on the Tibetan plateau. This project, located near the Arunachal Pradesh border, has raised concerns in India and Bangladesh about potential control or diversion of the Yarlung Tsangpo/Brahmaputra river. India has formally expressed its concerns to China, urging transparency and consultation to ensure downstream interests are not impacted. Tibetan activists, however, view the dam as further exploitation of their land and resources, contradicting China's claims of ecological protection and prosperity.
