Scientists have determined that 2025 was one of the three hottest years on record, with the three-year average temperature exceeding the 1.5C limit set by the Paris Agreement for the first time. This warming, attributed to continued fossil fuel use despite a La Niña pattern, intensified extreme weather events globally. Researchers analyzed 157 severe events, noting that heat waves were significantly more likely due to human-induced climate change, underscoring the urgency to reduce fossil fuel burning to prevent catastrophic impacts.
