Assam CM Announces Eviction Drive on Five Lakh Bighas if BJP Wins Assembly Polls

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to carry out eviction drives on five lakh bighas (over 1.65 lakh acres) of land if the BJP returns to power after the upcoming assembly polls. He emphasized clearing alleged encroachments in forests and tribal areas, targeting illegal infiltrators, particularly Bangladeshi nationals. Sarma highlighted that 1.5 lakh bighas have been freed from encroachment in the past five years and expressed confidence in receiving strong public support. The Assam Assembly elections are expected in March-April 2024, following a recent delimitation exercise.
