Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that from the upcoming Budget Session starting January 28, MPs must mark their attendance electronically from their designated seats inside the House, ending the previous practice of signing attendance from lobbies or outside the chamber. This change aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and legislative discipline by ensuring attendance reflects active participation. The system uses biometric verification at each seat, and attendance cannot be marked after the House is adjourned. The move is part of broader efforts to modernize parliamentary procedures.
