Karnataka Advances Mekedatu and Other Water Projects in 2026-27 Budget

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, presenting the 2026-27 budget, emphasized advancing key irrigation and drinking water projects. The state plans to push the Mekedatu balancing reservoir scheme despite opposition from Tamil Nadu, following a Supreme Court dismissal of related petitions. A revised project report and forest clearance proposal will be submitted soon. Progress includes the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project and the Upper Bhadra Project. Additionally, a balancing reservoir near Vaderahalli will be constructed, and the government is considering a reservoir near Navali to address Tungabhadra reservoir silt accumulation.
