
The Madras High Court criticized the Tamil Nadu government for its "mechanical" use of the Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, commonly known as the Goondas Act. The court granted bail to YouTuber Varaaki, who was detained under the Act due to a landlord-tenant dispute, stating that preventive detention is a draconian measure that should not be used to stifle dissent or bypass normal legal procedures. The bench emphasized that citizen liberty is a constitutional guarantee and warned of disciplinary action against officials misusing these powers.
