
Bheemanna Khandre, a freedom fighter and veteran Congress leader from Karnataka, died at age 100 in Bhalki, Bidar district. He played a key role in the Karnataka unification movement, especially for Kannada-speaking regions of the erstwhile Hyderabad State. Khandre served as Transport Minister in the early 1990s and was active in education through the Shantivardhak Education Society. His funeral in Bhalki was attended by political leaders across parties, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, who paid tribute to his lifelong public service.
