ED Submits Prosecution Sanction Against P. Chidambaram in Aircel Maxis and INX Media Cases

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted prosecution sanction orders against former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in connection with the Aircel Maxis and INX Media money laundering cases. The sanctions, granted on February 10, 2026, comply with a Supreme Court ruling requiring prior approval for prosecuting public servants under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED alleges that Chidambaram granted Foreign Investment Promotion Board approvals in exchange for illegal gratification routed through entities linked to his son, Karti Chidambaram. Both have denied the charges, calling them politically motivated. The sanctions have been filed before the special court at Rouse Avenue to expedite trial proceedings, which have faced delays due to legal challenges.
