The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the halt of construction on a 'ring road' in Manipur, allegedly built without state government approval through forests in six districts. The NGT directed chief secretary and district officials to ensure compliance. This road is distinct from a government-approved project in the state capital. An application by the civil society group COCOMI prompted the NGT's intervention, citing concerns over environmental and geological safety assessments.
