The Supreme Court has quashed a 10-year rape conviction for a Madhya Pradesh man after he married the complainant. Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma invoked Article 142, stating they had a "sixth sense" the parties could reconcile. The court observed the consensual relationship was given a criminal color due to misunderstanding. The couple married in July after the man was granted interim bail, and are now living together. The court also ordered the man's reinstatement and salary arrears.
