The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has reconstituted Haryana's State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and State Level Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC). This move aims to decentralize the environmental clearance process for Category B projects, empowering states. Retired IAS officer Ankur Gupta has been appointed chairman of the SEIAA. The reconstitution addresses a backlog caused by the previous vacancy or partial functionality of these bodies, which are crucial for approving projects in key districts.
