Karnataka government suspended Ballari Superintendent of Police Pavan Nejjur following violence that erupted in the district, resulting in the death of a Congress worker. The suspension, effective immediately pending inquiry, was recommended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police who cited Nejjur's alleged failure to appropriately handle the situation. The violence reportedly stemmed from an argument between supporters of two MLAs over banners placed near a residence.
