Newly Erected India-Myanmar Border Fence in Manipur Damaged Amid Security Concerns

Approximately 120 to 150 metres of newly erected fencing along the India-Myanmar border in Manipur's Chandel district were deliberately cut and dismantled near New Samtal village in mid-January. Officials attribute the damage to planned sabotage, highlighting vulnerabilities in this remote area guarded by the 1st Assam Rifles but lacking Border Security Force presence. The incident has raised concerns over border security, with investigations ongoing. AICC secretary Christopher Tilak criticized the central government for inadequate border management and development efforts in the region.
