A study of nearly 20,000 execution petitions filed at the Bombay High Court between 2017 and 2024 reveals these cases constitute a significant portion of the court's workload, averaging two years for disposal. Most execution petitions are dismissed, with over 57% of cases filed during the study period remaining pending as of December 2024. The process differs from criminal cases, as civil judgments assume voluntary compliance or appeal, requiring separate execution proceedings if the debtor defaults.
