Election Commission Notices Former Mumbai Mayor Over Alleged False Affidavit in BMC Polls

Ahead of the 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, the Election Commission issued a notice to former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar following a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya. Somaiya alleges Pednekar submitted a false affidavit by not disclosing involvement in multiple FIRs, including the COVID-19 body bag scam and Slum Rehabilitation Authority irregularities. He has demanded cancellation of her candidature, while the Shinde-led Shiv Sena has challenged these claims in the Bombay High Court.
