The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for engaging Senior Advocates to represent it in the Supreme Court. Developed in consultation with the Advocate-General and Madras High Court, the SOP aims to regulate the increasing use of Senior Counsels. It emphasizes exploring cases through Additional Advocates General first and restricts Senior Counsel engagement to sensitive matters such as constitutional challenges, high-value revenue cases, or issues affecting key state officials or policies.
