The Union Minister for Railways announced plans to double train capacity in Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Visakhapatnam within five years as part of a national initiative targeting 48 major cities by 2030. The roadmap includes expanding existing terminals with more platforms and infrastructure, identifying locations for new terminals, and upgrading signaling and maintenance facilities. These phased improvements aim to reduce congestion, meet rising passenger demand, and enhance national connectivity, with some benefits expected to be realized immediately.
