
The Odisha government has sanctioned over Rs 4.65 crore in compensation for families affected by December 2025 clashes between tribal people and Bengali settlers in Malkangiri district. The funds include Rs 20 lakh ex gratia for the next of kin of a 51-year-old tribal woman who was killed. The clashes, rooted in land disputes, led to damage of nearly 200 houses and shops and displacement of over 1,000 Bengali settlers. The Malkangiri Bengali Samaj has also raised Rs 1.1 crore for affected people and provided additional support to the tribal victim's family.
