Bihar Reports Over 93% Household Tap Water Coverage, Expands Water Infrastructure
The Bihar government announced that over 93% of households now have tap water connections, increasing from 2.66 lakh in 2016 to 1.87 crore in 2026, aiming to cover 2.02 crore families. Efforts include repairing hand pumps, deploying 475 water tanks and water ATMs, and establishing laboratories for water quality testing. The government is also using IoT-based monitoring through the PayJal app and plans to install 100 water ATMs this fiscal year, focusing on left-out hamlets and Mahadalit colonies.
