The Madhya Pradesh government has requested a five-week extension from the High Court to submit a plan for assessing and remediating contaminated soil and groundwater around the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) plant in Bhopal. Following a March 3 meeting with health officials, the government initiated a tender process for cleanup work under Environment Protection Rules 2025. An action report noted disposal of 337 metric tons of chemical waste, with further remediation and detoxification efforts planned. The next court hearing is scheduled for April 23.
