The Lokpal has canceled a controversial order to purchase seven luxury BMW cars for its chairperson and members. Sources stated the decision was unwarranted and unnecessary, citing Section 7 of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. This section entitles the Chairperson to the salary of the Chief Justice of India and Members to that of a Supreme Court Judge. The upgrade followed similar upgrades for Supreme Court judges. Currently, the Lokpal Chairperson uses a Skoda Superb, and members use Toyota Corolla Altis.
