Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that no rhinos were poached in the state in 2025, continuing a trend from 2023. This success is attributed to collective efforts by the government, forest officials, volunteers, and local communities. Once threatened by poaching and habitat loss, Assam's rhino population has rebounded to approximately 4,000, with a significant number residing in Kaziranga National Park, which houses nearly 80% of the greater one-horned rhinos.
