Chandigarh's administration has reconstituted a committee, led by the Estate Department secretary, to review ownership rights of over 35,000 houses built under a 1979 rehabilitation scheme for economically weaker sections. The committee will examine legal frameworks, pending cases, and models from other cities before recommendations. A 2023 survey found nearly 80% of occupants are not original allottees, with many transfers via non-legal agreements. Separately, the administration ruled out implementing a land pooling policy, citing adherence to the city's Master Plan and land preservation for development, despite farmers' demands.
