Bihar Police has proposed to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs a plan to operationalise six new Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 163 crore, aiming for completion by 2026. Currently, Bihar has four FSLs. An agreement with the National Forensic Science University will establish cyber forensic units by July 2025. The police face staffing vacancies but expect contractual hires soon to enhance forensic investigations, which have grown since new criminal laws took effect in July 2024.
