Indian Navy Commissions INS Anjadip to Enhance Anti-Submarine Warfare Capabilities

The Indian Navy commissioned INS Anjadip, the third vessel in the eight-ship Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft project, at Chennai Port. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata, the 77-metre ship is designed for littoral and shallow water operations, equipped with indigenous ASW weapons and sensors including the hull-mounted Abhay sonar, lightweight torpedoes, and ASW rockets. Capable of speeds up to 25 knots via water-jet propulsion, INS Anjadip supports anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations, and search and rescue. Named after Anjadip Island near Karwar, it enhances the Navy’s capacity to secure India’s eastern seaboard and maritime interests near Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
