West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has laid the foundation stone for 'Durga Angan', a cultural complex dedicated to Goddess Durga, in New Town, Kolkata. The Rs 261.99 crore project, spanning 17.28 acres, aims to honor UNESCO's recognition of Durga Puja as a cultural heritage. The complex will feature numerous deity idols, lion statues, and spaces for worship and cultural performances, with the government anticipating it will boost tourism and create employment opportunities. The initiative has drawn criticism from the BJP, who accuse the state government of appeasement politics.
