Fifteen families, totaling around 40 people, were evacuated from two residential buildings and a hotel in Shimla's Chalaunthi area after cracks developed in the structures and nearby roads. Residents blame ongoing tunnel construction by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the damage, citing blasting and excavation. Authorities have halted traffic and construction, with a minister assuring compensation and an inquiry into the cause. Similar incidents have occurred in the vicinity previously.
