India and Germany Sign Joint Declarations to Enhance Telecom and Defence Cooperation

India and Germany have strengthened bilateral ties through two Joint Declarations of Intent signed during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's January 2026 visit to India. One agreement focuses on telecommunications cooperation, aiming to enhance collaboration in digital technologies, policy frameworks, and manufacturing. The other advances defence industrial cooperation, emphasizing long-term co-development, technology transfer, and military collaboration. These initiatives build on 75 years of diplomatic relations and 25 years of strategic partnership, supporting inclusive digital transformation and deeper defence ties.
