Allahabad High Court Affirms Judicial Officers' Authority Over Police in Contempt Case

The Allahabad High Court initiated contempt proceedings against two police officers for failing to comply with orders from a Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) to produce CCTV footage related to an accused's alleged illegal detention. The court emphasized that judicial officers, while on duty, hold authority above administrative and executive officials, comparable to legislative and political executives. The bench also directed CJMs to conduct random checks of police stations' CCTV operations to ensure adherence to Supreme Court guidelines.
